So, let's say that the British after WW2 decided that they will not allow partition of India, and that India should become a dominion, but as a whole country, not divided by religious lines?
So Burma and Andaman & Nicobar islands would be separated from India. Burma to become a separate dominion, and A&N Islands to remain a colony of UK.
And it is decided that goverment of India will be:
a) governor general ( a british subject- because of inability of agreement of Muslims and Hindus about from wich group will GG be )
b) federal goverment ( a prime minister- Hindus, deputy prime minister- a Muslim, 1/3 of all ministers- Muslims, and 1 minister for Sikhs and Cristians )
c) Federal Parliament composed of:
c1) Chamber of Deputies ( evry million of population- one MP ) plus additional representation for Sikhs and Cristians
c2) Senate ( evry state 4 senators )
d) Supreme Court ( 15 judges, named by Governor General, and with agreement of 2/3 both Chamber of Deputies and a Senate )
States of this Union of India will be largely based on linguistic borders, but it will have no more than 40 states, and with a Capital Teritory of Delhi.
Also, provinces with muslim majority will be at least 1/3 of all provinces.
What do you think, can this be a functional solution?
What is better for Britain ( and her influence in India ), this solution or OTL solution?
What about Ceylon, to leave it to become a separate dominion, or join him to India as 1 or 2 states?
