What if: MTV focuses on Music

What if MTV stayed focused on Music and didn't have all these stupid shows the last 20 years like The Real World and Road Rules and Viva La Bam and things like that?

People stop watching due to Itunes and Rhapsody. MTV is bought out and the shitty shows are produced later.

Why? Radio didn't kill Records and CD's or vice versa; why would ITunes kill MTV if it were still Music television instead of "20 shows about gold digging hos and mentally retarded skate boarders you won't remember next season"?

If it is that bad (no idea, i don't watch TV) why is it still airing?

Because people at MTV are developmentally challenged. I don't know why they didn't change the name of the network to the Nonsense Channel?

I wonder if the people that founded MTV would have created it if they could see into the future and know the road that the network would take. Road Rules? Viva La Bam? My Super Sweet 16? The Real World? Screw this. We don't need a music channel if that is what it will turn into.

*coughs*

PEACE ON EARTH!!!!

No shitty MTV shows, no crappy reality shows, nothing... but music. The world is spared from Road Rules, and other lame-o concepts.:p

I caught one of their so-called reality shows while sitting in a waiting room.

It was obvious at that point that MTV really meant Moron Television.

People still argue about MTV these days?

If MTV didn't come up with reality shows it would have died, plain and simple.

-Why listen to them for music when there's iTunes/Pandora/Spotify/Amazon?

-Why watch their music videos when there's Youtube?

Exactly what could MTV do in their "heyday" that the Internet can't do better?

You guys need to stop worrying about MTV and move on. :p

At least they brought back Beavis and Butthead . . . Now if only they could bring back Celebrity Deathmatch.

All their other shows can die in a fire.

MTV is the epitome of corporate lying. Tis evil. Evol! (Rawr)

Seriously, though, no, it would not have died had it kept true to itself.

Video did not kill the Radio star, nor the star on recorded media (that may change from Vinyl to Cassette to CD to MP3/MPEG4/Itune, but it still exists is the point). Therefore, the Radio Star and the Record Star aren't going to kill Video in reverse. I don't care if there's more easy access to it. You could also access it back in the day by buying the record, or the VHS of the Music Video, and play it to your hearts delight. You watch music video tv for the same reason you listen to the radio. And it wasn't all music videos in the day either, but it was always about music. When it wasn't music videos, it was shows talking about music, interviewing musicians, and at most they'd branch out into pop culture for what was the cool thing in the day. And you'd get shows like Beavis and Butthead.

MTV brought in reality tv to broaden its market share, not because it was on life support or anything. And since then, reality tv has taken over the network totally.

Ironically the first video MTV ever played.

More like the audience is. Seriously, the people that run MTV aren't stupid - crap TV gets viewers and it's cheap to produce; which means profits. And it is all about the profits.

Want better programming? Get people to stop watching the garbage. Only, good luck with that plan.

Same thing with political candidates. If people like shite, well then, shite is what they'll get.
