What if Mary of Burgundy married Charles VIII of France.

I thought it best to keep this seperate from, the Charles the Bold thread.

What if Mary of Burgundy married Charles VIII of France.

France wins, Burgundy loses.

With Burgundy in the King's direct control there's no longer a reason to preserve its rights and privileges, which were after all a threat to the king's station. Burgundy would lose its court, monopolies, tax revenue, legal jurisdiction etc and would just become another part of the royal demesne.

I can't see what a Burgundian stands to gain from this arrangement. With the union with Austria there was at least no land connection or national connection, removing the threat of Burgundy being stripped of its legal rights.

It means Austria and the Habsburgs dont inherit it, its avery wealthy area.
Austria is weaker during its history, both Austria and Spain dont get involved in the struggle for this region, France is richer.
Come the french wars of religion, the Protestant side will be more powerful, possibly it tips the balance so that the Hugenots win.

Thinking in too broad of strokes.
Mary the Rich marrying Charles VIII of France introduces so many butterflies that the Reformation as we know it will probably happen quite differently. When Charles the Bold died, Martin Luther hadn't even been born. The state of the church certainly means that some reform movement happening is quite possible, but seeing Martin Luther nail his theses of Jean Calvin is not. The Huguenots as we know it probably won't exist: and even if they do, that doesn't mean the Low Countries will still embrace the Reformation. Philip II's heavy handed policies was partially why the Reformed Religion became so popular.

Why would this be the so? These privileges lasted into the 18th century in much of France OTL, after all.

Exactly, but the consider the fact that the struggle by the Habsburgs for the Netherlands is partly what dominates European politics for 200 years.

Is this a potential Ottoman Wank? Or will the Ottomans just progress a little more further into Hungary and Austria , before going into steep decline? If so , who profits from the Ottoman decline?

On the other hand , absent the drain of the Dutch Wars , would the Spanish be better able to counter the Ottoman attempts to control the Mediterranean ?

Thanx, so concerning,
"Is this a potential Ottoman Wank?"
meaning does my scenario just allow the Ottomans to go unoppossed.

If so, then not at all, the Ottomans have a much harder time of it.
Spain and Austria dont end up embroiled in North West Europe for centuries ?.

I think the Ottomans are about the limits of their European expansion - they probably do take Vienna (there's a thread somewhere talking about it, will hunt it down and show you if you want) which strengthens their position - but it would only become an Ottoman wank if they took over Italy and the rest of Austria and so on as well. So this scenario in and of itself isn't really a wank for anyone, at this point.

They're not unopposed, but their opponents are weaker, so all things being even they'll do better.

How the Habsburgs do here...they might not get the Spanish throne at all, depending on how marriages and children work out.
