I've read a lot of threads discussing alternate husbands for Maria Theresa, usually Frederick II, but I haven't seen any about a marriage to Charles III of Spain. In 1736 Charles VI convinced Francis to trade Lorraine for Tuscany. Francis's mother and brother opposed the swap, and Francis had misgivings himself. So what if Francis refused to make the exchange, and in retaliation Charles VI calls off the marriage? Instead he arranges for a marriage with Charles III (currently Charles VII & V of Naples & Sicily) and restoration of the Spanish alliance seeing as how the British haven't honored theirs. What does TTL's Treaty of Vienna look like? What happens to Stanislaw Leszczynski and how is the territory in Italy divided? Will there be a War of the Austrian Succession? If Ferdinand VI doesn't have any children who will inherit the kingdom of Spain?
