What if MacArthur became president

Election night 1952
Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we will find out who is elected president of the united states.
We have the democrat's nomination Adlai Stevenson and his running mate John Sparkman.
We have the Republicans nomination Douglas MacArthur and his running Mate Richard Nixon.
Announcer 2:Most of the buzz is about MacArthur, after all this is not his first time running for president. His first time was back in 1944. But he failed to get party support. I should also talk about Truman's decision to relieve MacArthur as a 5 star general, it was a very unpopular on Truman's behalf.
Announcer: It appears that the states are giving in their votes.
A Electoral is on the stage and gives out the results.
Electoral Douglas MacArthur has been elected to serve as the president of the united states.
Cheering is heard and then silence. President-elect MacArthur stands up and gives a speech. "This is a victory not for the party nor me but the nation, We as Americans stand tall in this brave new world, as our men go off to fight, they come back wiser than ever. I would like to thank Vice-president-Elect Richard Nixon for being such a trustworthy companion. I swear you can give him the keys to the democratics HQ and he wouldn't touch it."
Douglas MacArthur was sworn as the 34th president of the united states.

IMO MacArthur would not have been a strong candidate for thr GOP nomination. His record showed he was not a very good politician: he lost his (alleged) home state Wisconsin to Stassen in the 1948 Republican primary. http://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=35777

Yes, there was a lot of talk of him running when he was dismissed, because the immediate reaction of public opinion to the dismissal was outrage. But that faded pretty quickly. All a MacArthur candidacy would have done would be to make the nomination of General Eisenhower even more likely than in OTL, because the Taftite vote would be divided between Taft himself and MacArthur. "Even MacArthur's acolyte Robert Wood said of Taft, 'We cannot desert the man who had no hesitation in putting his name on the Taft-Hartley Act, the man who fought unlimited government controls, the man who fought communism in government, the man who fought for our kind of America.'" https://books.google.com/books?id=3q92ePfQDloC&pg=PA181
