What if Lenin was purged?

Lenin's wife Nadezhda Krupskaya said in 1926 "Lenin was only saved from prison by his death" and Leon Sedov (Trotsky's son) said "When Lenin was writing his Testament, he was far from being able to imagine just how far Stalin’s abuse of power would go. Yes, if Lenin were alive, he would not only be in prison, but he would have been declared the first and foremost terrorist!".
So what if Stalin purged Lenin or had him assassinated but everyone deep down knew who did it?

I don't think that even Stalin dare touch Lenin directly. But he can secretly orchestrate accident or assassination for Lenin. But him should be very careful that other never find out truth.

Stalin's hold on power was nowhere near complete at the time of Lenin's death. If Stalin somehow hits his head and starts declaring Lenin to be an enemy of the people, someone is definitely going to get purged, but it won't be Lenin.

So he's so badly wounded he can't remain in control?

I would imagine in that scenario, some sort of a troika/council/cabal/directorate would rule in his place and very much in his direction. I can't see Stalin being part of that and moving against the Leninist rulers would end in the "undesirable counterrevolutionary elements" being purged themselves.

Stalin couldn't dominate the Politburo single handedly even into the 1930s, he's not in a position to purge Revolutionary #1. He'd have to launch a coup, which I think would fail, but which would certainly be an interesting POD!

in 1918 fanny kaplan shot lenin in the neck and lung. many historians believe that it was a major factor in causing the strokes that eventually killed him. lenin's wife said that if he had lived longer he would've been purged, so i'm asking what if he did live longer and was purged?
