What if LBJ killed himself in 1968?

What if Johnson, who suffered manic depression, killed himself in the Summer of 1968?

Let’s say that as his approval falls into the 30s briefly during the Summer, Vietnam is chaotic, he has lost control over the country, and everything else, his depression gets very bad suddenly. He gives a public address that is fairly solemn and apologetic, and later that night he kills himself. He leaves a few notes behind saying a variety of things.

What is the fallout of Johnson killing himself in August? How does this effect the election? Vietnam? His legacy? US culture?

I think this is enough to get Humphrey across the finish line, particularly in the South. He might also be able to negotiate a withdrawal.
