What if Kissinger accepts Mao's offer of 10 million women

:D

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Amid a discussion of trade in 1973, Chinese leader Mao Zedong made what U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger called a novel proposition: sending tens of thousands, even 10 million, Chinese women to the United States.

"You know, China is a very poor country," Mao said, according to a document released by the State Department's historian office.

"We don't have much. What we have in excess is women. So if you want them we can give a few of those to you, some tens of thousands."

A few minutes later, Mao circled back to the offer. "Do you want our Chinese women?" he asked. "We can give you 10 million."

After Kissinger noted Mao was "improving his offer," the chairman said, "We have too many women. ... They give birth to children and our children are too many."

"It is such a novel proposition," Kissinger replied in his discussion with Mao in Beijing. "We will have to study it."

Isn't this kinda ASB?

I mean, sure the proposal was made, but let's look at the possibility and everything first.

Well, let's try to increase the sanity of this question:

Could the USA allow increased immigration, particularly women, from China?

This they most certainly could have done. 10 Million is a lot all at once, but on the installment plan, we've got 12 million illegal immigrants on the installment plan.

I think the number that would ultimately make the trip would be well under 1 million. They would make a major contribution to the USA (and there would be many mixed marriages as a result), and they would reduce China's own birthrate, while creating weird social pressures in China.

On the whole, I don't see this doing much more than creating a much larger Chinese Community in the USA, which is probably a good thing--people are a resource, and the Chinese culture is generally agreeable in the USA.

An indeterminate number of of Chinese spies means that Chinese brides will be rather dangerous for government officials for some time. On the other, where would they be settled, and how? Some big "American bachelors" society, where men who have lost a wife can meet potential new ones?

Maybe make a new city in the Plains for these people?

Chinese hookers so cheap you don't even feed them?:D

Actually...ok, let's say the Chinese govt pays people, as individuals to 'sponsor' well...mail order brides. I realize it's illegal to marry specifically for immigration purposes (or is that just more than one) but WI the Chinese govt sets up a program. Men who qualify can come to China, meet women, and see what works out.

Might work, I dunno.

If this were to be done, it would happen as a population relocation programme. China would simply provide the people and the US government would have to see what to do with them - and since it accepted them, there must be a plan. How did they deal with the Vietnamese inflow (other than throwing the majority of their allies to the wolves)? I could see holding and processing centres and job placement programmes set up. Play it as 'millions excaped from tyranny are now helped to adjust to freedom'. Since it's women, the symbolism plays better and there's less resentment from people whose jobs are in jeopardy in the oil crisis.

maybe they'd also ask some allies to take in a quota.

I think the rise of female immigrants would settle within 2 generations. But Why would China send them to a potential rival?

Hmm, first Monica and now this. The is getting better and better. Back to the topic. I don´t think the Americans can cope with 10 million chinese chicks, so send some to Germany too. :D

Last week when I first read the story from the news service that originally uneathed this, Mao apologized and said it was a bad joke at Chinese women's expense.

For some reason when this story appeared on CNN and BBC they deleted the last paragraph.
