British colonization of India started by them building factories in Surat and Hoogl.

What if the Mughal emperor Jahangir never allowed the British to set up factories in India in the first place?

Why would he not do that? It was by all accounts very useful for him, both as an extra source of revenue and to weaken the Portuguese; if he didn’t his successors probably would. The immediate consequences are a stronger Dutch and Portuguese presence. It doesn’t really change the trajectory of the subcontinent up to the 1740’s really, and by that point there is so much anarchy that following the invasion of Nader Shah and people realising the weakness of Delhi, any and all powers would be doing their best to muscle each other out- whether the one that come out on top is the Dutch, Portuguese or newcomers like the French or the British would be up in the air
