The division of the British Mandate that was put forth by the UN, accepted by the Zionists and rejected by the Palestinians/Arabs, would have allowed a marginally viable Israeli state. The "strip" along the coast a poster suggested is simply non viable economically and militarily. It would simply be sitting there waiting for the next war, at which point it would be overwhelmed.
It is difficult to sort out how much of the "Jews in the sea" rhetoric was sincere and how much bombast, however for the bulk of the troops rape, looting, and murder would have been the order of the day. Don't forget that the grand Mufti of Jerusalem spent much of WWII working with the Nazis, and was totally on board with the Holocaust. Looking at the totality of Arab political statements the best that you could expect would be that Jews who had lived in Palestine prior to the mandate and their descendants would be allowed to stay - this would be a small proportion of the Jews in Israel even before refugees post WWII.
The issue of where the Jews go is the real question. Survivors were NOT welcome in many of the countries that they had been citizens of in 1939. Returning Jews in Poland, Germany, Hungary, etc were often set upon, could not regain homes and so forth. Additionally many of the Jews would not have wanted to go to countries that were now communist/under Soviet occupation, or towns where their neighbors had sent them off to the camps. Given the devastation of western Europe, while France, Holland, Belgium, Denmark etc might welcome back surviving citizens, their ability to absorb many Jewish refugees in the face of the massive rebuilding they had to do would be minimal. The USA, Canada, and Australia could take more, but especially the USA and Canada would be more inclined to skim the "cream" - Australia might be more open as they were eager for "white" immigrants. IMHO a lot of the Jewish refugees who went to Israel OTL and expelled Jews would end up in refugee camps behind barbed wire for years and years.
The Mizrahi Jews - they are screwed. I doubt they will be expelled, but I expect their lot to get worse. Expropriation of property, loss of civil rights (where they had any) and so forth. Unlike many Ashkenazi Jews, and some "Israeli" Jews, the Mizrahi as a group have fewer marketable skills to buy their way in to countries as refugees, and tend to be "darker" which is another strike against them.
Any Arab coalition that destroys a nascent Israel in 1948 will fall apart rapidly arguing over the spoils, and I expect there will be a small marginal Palestinian state if the Arab countries allow it once they have all taken their bit. Of course, without an Israel who will the Arab leaders blame for the mess their societies are? Who can they inflame the masses against, to deflect upset from the root causes of dysfunction.
