What if Islamic terrorism wasn't such a major problem?

Today's epidemic of Islamic terrorism can be traced back to one country: Saudi Arabia. By establishing mosques that preach Wahhabism and giving these mosques funding, Saudi Arabia spreads Wahhabism to many countries throughout the world, especially countries in the West. In the last few decades, $100 billion was spent by the Saudis to support these mosques, money derived from Saudi Arabia's vast oil wealth. In second half of the 20th Century, fifteen hundred Wahhabi mosques were constructed around the world.

And I'm assuming that you know the impact that ideology has had on the 21st Century.

So, what if Islamic terrorism wasn't a major problem, meaning that it still exists in some form, but is not as widespread as it is in our timeline? The POD being Ibn Saud failing and being killed in his attempt to capture Riyadh from the Ottoman-aligned Rashidis in 1902?

I think the best way isn't the Saudis, its having pan-arabism not fail. The rise of Islamism only came after the pan arab movement kept losing

Best way is get Ottomans survive and CPs win WW1. Then there is not Europeans messing in Middle East nor Saudis not rise. And there wouldn't be Israel too. So more stable Middle East and them haven't so much of grudge against the West. And there wouldn't be revolution in Iran. This would help Western nations form better relationships with Middle Eastern nations. USA and Europe too wouldn't see rising Islamophobia and ultra-nationalism or at least it wouldn't be so strong.

I'd really strongly advise you to have a look at the existence of Shi'a Islam as a thing, and their links to the Islamic Revolution in Iran and Hezbollah in Lebannon.

Now, you can call the Shi'a "not islamic", and you can call Hezbollah "not terrorists", but the story is a lot more complicated than you are making it.

The Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism started in Saudi Arabia and it was funded and supported by Saudi oil money. The Wahabism or Salaphism or whatever term you use to name it was nourished by the Saudi Royal House. In their efforts to root out Pan-Arabic nationalism they were aided by the British before the WWII and by the USA after the WWII. It was the British who helped Abdul Aziz to establish the Saudi kingdom. It was the USA who supported the Mujahideen in Afghanistan and enabled the growth of Taliban there.

The Shah stays in power or you get some conservative quasi democracy with the Shah as a figurehead or something(Thailand but more stable).
