This is inspired by an exchange of posts I had with 1940LaSalle on the subject of what
would have happened if Theodore Roosevelt
had not died IOTL in1919. 1940 maintained
that he would have been re-elected President in 1920 & would then, among other things, made his cousin, one Franklin
D Roosevelt, a member of his administration
(SEE "What if Theodore Roosevelt didn't die
in 1919" in the "After 1900" forum)
OK, WI this had happened- how would it have altered FDR's career?
*- Would he & TR been able to push the
G.O.P. to the left & perhaps even make
it the more liberal of our two major
parties?
*- Or would it have made FDR a conser-
vative, thus butterflying away The New
Deal, with consequences that only be
described as HUGE.
Oh yes, re the polio that FDR contracted in
1921 IOTL you can choose to either a)butt-
terfly it away, b)have FDR get it @ a later
date, or c)have him still get it in 1921 but
decide, when TR came calling, to resume
government service despite his physical
problems(which IOTL is in fact what FDR
decided to do).
