I'm reading an interesting Italian book "Quando l'America si innamorò di Mussolini" of Ennio Caretto ("When America fall in love with Mussolini"),on the perception that USA had of fascist Italy and his Duce, especially during the Hoover and first FDR administration.
I have also see a 1933 movie entitled "Gabriel over the White House" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Over_the_White_House
The film is unique in that, by revoking the Constitution, etc., President Hammond does not become a villain, but a hero who "solves all of the nation's problems, bringing peace to the country and the world, and is universally acclaimed “one of the greatest presidents who ever lived. The Library of Congress comments:
The good news: he reduces unemployment, lifts the country out of the Depression, battles gangsters and Congress, and brings about world peace. The bad news: he's Mussolini.
My question is,what if President Roosevelt (and his wife)had been deep influenced by fascism (as was see in late 20s-early 30s),and had tent to apply fascists recipes in USA?
Eventually FDR could realize an authoritarian option?
