Fantasy Island is an American television series starring Ricardo Montalban and Hervé Villechaize and it was originally aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984.

In 1979, ABC moved Fantasy Island onto its Friday night slot. It was meant to schedule against CBS' popular superhero series The Incredible Hulk. ABC however agreed they want to cancel the show after low disastrous ratings on Friday nights, and forced to replace Fantasy Island with a Cannell-Larson-Universal project Nightside, which has even worse ratings than Fantasy Island.

ABC also agreed to pick up a full season commitment for The Lazarus Syndrome. ABC also agreed to cancel Hart to Hart, in order that they will lose ratings to NBC's A Man Called Sloane, which also picked up for a full season commitment. ABC however forced to place Spelling-Goldberg's Family into the Hart to Hart timeslot.

Nightside
only lasted a few episodes (October-December 1979) before being cancelled in the January of 1980, forcing to replace the show with B.A.D. Cats.

Ricardo Montalban will later go on to guest starring roles in the early 1980s before landing on The Colbys in 1985, which Montalban was incorrectly listed as a "special guest star" in the opening titles.

Completely ITTL, Fantasy Island was moved back to its old Saturday night time slot in the October of 1979 and continued until 1984, cancelling off The Lazarus Syndrome, Nightside was never aired (except for a 1980 TV movie), Family airing Monday nights beginning the winter of 1980, and picked up a full season commitment for Hart to Hart IOTL.
