What if Charles Evans Hughes was elected in 1916?

As for a Versailles Treaty under Hughes, I don't think it would look all that different from that of OTL, only Hughes would have a better chance of getting the US into the League of Nations (or whatever it could be called) because he would not insist on the open-ended commitments of Article X. But I still don't think the League would be very effective, even with US membership.
The US alliance with France could be a relative game-changer, though. After all, would France have still formed a series of Eastern European alliances after WWI if it was already allied with Britain and the US?

I wonder what sort of ramifications a Hughes presidency could have on the Treaty of Versailles and the formation of the League of Nations.

I've always felt that Hughes in 1916 presents an interesting potential ATL

Democrats almost certainly sweep into power in 1920 and with a good economy keep it through the 20's.

Neither party was particularly pushing economic/wall street reform in the 20s (there were certainly elements within the parties but no majority) so things likely proceed as in OTL.

Which leads to the GOP coming back in 32.

And a potential for Hoover defeating the seemingly hopeless FDR.
