What if Belgium had tried to keep the Congo?

It's simple really. What if Belgium tried to pull a 'France'/Portugal and use force to keep the Congo instead of granting it independence? I don't know if this is an accurate comparison but the Netherlands (TINYcompared to it's colony of Indonesia was able to fight against the rebels for a good while all the way from 1945-1949 IIRC..I'm sure international pressure would eventually be brought down on Belgium to let the Congo go, but would the Soviets try to find a way to support the Congolese?

IOTL, Belgium basically did try to stay in the Congo by trying to carve off satellite states in Katanga and South Kasai. Too, they murdered Lumumba.

As for the Soviets, where do you think all those African guerrillas got their AK-47s?

that true

for Belgium it was a clique from the Heavy Industry, Banks, Rich and colonist. Who wanted to protect there Investment and sources of raw materials in Katanga
what Communist Lumumba had nationalize it.
so the clique finance and armed his opponents and force a splitting-off Katanga from rest of Congo, what let to Congo civil War
were all end up as losers, except one: dictator Mobutu Sese Seko

I'm kind of iffy on saying the Belgians were behind Katanga. Hell, I'd be more willing to say the Rhodesians were behind Katanga, when you look at all the white folks the UN shipped out of there once they got it.

It was Belgium's baby which the Rhodesians jumped on like nobody's business.

Cuban intervention and South African pressures would make a differance assuming they still took place.
South Africa? I would of thought that they would of welcomed another white minority-ruled state as a possible trading partner, or at the very least another target to take some of the heat off of them.

i assume it would be the same as the Portuguese;
the country would find on for years maybe longer until the people of belgium finally decide that its not only not worth it, but impossible to hold on to.

especially the damn congo

Was thinking of them cavalier counter-intervening in support of the belgians - they were not shy to do so IOTL and might cause quite a bit of damage.
