What if - BEF vs ww1 style attack rather than blitzkrieg

following on from my earlier thread on British army sanity options how would the (slightly pimped) BEF cope with a more WW 1 style opponent?

Something more like the French armies 'methodical battle ' for example

Answering own post I suppose Op compass in North Africa shows how ?

Let's also assume that our pimped BEF has a manouver element

Have you had a look at the breakdown of the German army fighting against the BEF, it was not that different from WWI?

The BEF would stop them cold and then with it's greater mobility (being fully mechanised unlike the Germans) get round behind them to cut off their supplies and after alot of hard fighting force their surrender. Without their armoured divisions the Germans wouldn't have succeded at all, never mind in the six weeks of the French campaign. The vast majority of their forces were no different to the Kaiser's troops relying on muscle power, either human or horse to move around. You don't have to upgrade the BEF at all, they already had all the tools to defeat a WWI level force.

The BEF was too small to make a difference early on, and their preparedness coming out of the the grey days of the 30s was not all that good, so do not expect different results, the struggle is dragged on for a little longer.
The British Army was not that well prepared to fight, same as the French. The difference is that is the latter do not hold the line, all would be lost.
People talk about tanks, horses and do similar bean counting, but the truth is that for every repulse inflicted on the Heer, there was some rupture somewhere along the front.

The non-panzer like in WWI? Make it 1918 WWI+ Luftwaffe

To all intents and purposes a muscle powered army is starionary when compared to a highly mechanised force like the BEF. While the Luftwaffe would be a problem the RAF wouldn't be having it's airfields overrun and would be reinforced from Britain. With the BEF chewing up the German army on the ground the RAF wouldn't be able to hold back aircraft from the front incase they were needed to protect Britain from invasion. Churchill would sack any Air Marshal with such a defeatist attitude.

And still no one has explained how BEF overcomes its basic problem - lack of strength?

Mobility, it can mover firther and much faster than any muscle, powered force. Send the light tanks into the enemies rear and shoot up their supply lines, headquarters ect. There is aso the French Ar!ies deployed alongside the BEF to supply extra. Anpower when needed. They're not quite as mechanised as the BEF but far, far superior to what they're facing. We shouldn't forget thw Belgians either, thoug they're a much more static force.
