What Happened to the Condominium of the New Hebrides During WWII?

Once France surrendered in WWII, what happened to the Anglo-French Condominium of the New Hebrides (modern Vanuatu), which lasted until 1980? Was the French colonial regime Vichyist? If so, did the British and Vichyist French fight there?

The French ambassador did his best to ignore European politics and carry on as usual and nobody back in Europe tried to interfere. There was no fighting between the British and French although there was significant fear that the Japanese would invade. In May of 1942 the Americans arrived and simply put the whole island chain under military rule, and they effectively became a US naval base. Multiple US installations, tons of airstrips, and thousands and thousands of Allied troops.

Thanks. I'd heard about the US occupation and the rise of John Frum, but I didn't know what happened beforehand.
