I've come to the decision that this summer I will finally embark upon a real long-term TL instead the half-hearted attempts I have made in the past. My only question is, what should this project be? I have a few ideas and would like to know what the good members of AH.com would like to see.

Here they are:

That Magnificent Bastard- The story of Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and royal illegitamate of Henry VIII. ITTL he doesn't succumb to tuberculosis in 1536 and goes on to have a most interesting career which changes the course of European history entirely.

All He Surveys- Similar to TMB. Charles V's father, Philip the Handsome lives beyond 1506, remaining King of Castille and later assuming the throne of the HRE. Spain remains ununited, the Reformation takes on a different spin and the name Habsburg will reverberate through history even more than OTL.

An Amusing History-With the Duke of Clarence dead in 1827 and George IV dead in 1828, a young Victoria ascends the throne with her mother and the oppurtunistic Conroy running the Regency. British politics is changed forever with 'Communist' Tories and revolutionary Whigs aplenty.

A Father's Guidance- An ASB TL. In September 1862, the Civil War rages and with the Confederates winning victory after victory, the Union seems on the brink of defeat. Then, suddenly in a bright light, George Washington himself appears in front of the White House! What will this divine intervention mean for the fate of America?

That Magnificent Bastard! That Magnificent Bastard! I want to see the House of Fitzroy ruling England and Ireland!

I concur. Bonus points if each legitimate child of Henry VIII that we have in our timeline is born in yours* because Henry keeps wanting to propagate legitimate heirs, and as a result each daughter wages her own civil war against Henry Fitzroy, who manages to hold out against them all, including Elizabeth (who I imagine would be a bit tenacious in these circumstances).

Somehow the name seems a bit too on-the-nose. But good luck. And definitely do not do the second coming of George Washington thing.

*Perhaps Henry IX follows Edward VI?

I have to say that i love Dr. Waterhouse idea. It would be great to see that England divides in to small bit with each child having apart (Henry Fitzroy having the biggest part), then having the play a lot of political games before Fitzroy defeats them or most of them

Hmm...interesting thoughts. However, the War of the Roses was not long in the past and I suspect Fitzroy would try to find someway to seize power with as little bloodshed as possible.

Also: What do you mean by 'on the nose'?

He's a TRUE Bastard, Duh ...

My Favourite would be The Washington's Ghost One ...

But, What, Oh What, Would he Say?

The Fitzroy one. That might have some very interesting social consquences that could be explored, as well:

1. how does this influence succession laws? Does his being a good king or a bad king influence that?

2. How are illegitimate children treated in general in society?

3. How does this influence the role of women in society?

A few cans of worms could be opened up, if it lekas out that this is an illegitimate heir, even if he *is* the only one who can claim power easily.

I voted for That Magnificent Bastard because it's got a great title and I'm not really too familiar with the other POD's. I only remembered Henry Fitzroy's story from watching Showtime's The Tudors and am intrigued. Anyway, I hope that you really get in depth with developing not only his career, whatever that maybe, but also his character. Is he as scandalous and fascinating as his father? I hope so. Good luck with your future TL!

Thanks for the support. And don't worry, Fitzroy will be taking after his father in many ways but with a few very entertaining differences ;).

I never really watched The Tudors but after researching it, it doesn't really portray Fitzroy particularly accurately. The historical Fitzroy died at 17 of TB rather than sweating sickness at 3. Oh well, accuracy must be occassionly cast aside for the purposes of entertainment I suppose...

Hey Alberto Knox, now that the poll is closed and That Magnificent Bastard has won, I'd like to ask when we can expect the TL to begin?

Sometime in late June at the earliest I'm afraid. I've got exams first before I can even start writing this thing up. Hopefully it will be better for the preparation beforehand...
