What could the ERE have realistically done to help the WRE in the early 400s?

Assuming relations were better between the ERE and the WRE(which were tense due to Stilicho),was it realistic for the ERE to temporarily transfer army units into the WRE to help repel barbarian invasions? If not,was there any thing they could have done to help buff up the WRE realistically like financing the western half for example?

EDIT:Talking more about the years between 400-420.

Retake North Africa. The loss of North Africa saw the West lose one of its richest provinces, as well as their main breadbasket and a lot of population. With North Africa the West MIGHT be able to hold on for quite a bit longer. Without it they were doomed.

It's not like the ERE didn't try to save the WRE. As late as 468, the ERE and the WRE launched a massive joint expedition to smash the Vandals. It failed, badly and in the following years the Vandals defeated the ERE several more times and tried to invade and conquer the Peloponnese before the were ultimately repulsed. If the ERE and WRE had manged to defeat the Vandals it might have helped Anthemius out, but who knows if that would have been enough.

I'm talking more about the early years of the 400s between 400-420 when the barbarian outbreak first occurred.
