What could Alan Turning have really done if he wasn't driven to suicide by the rampant homophobia of 1940s Britain?
A lot of people say he would have changed the world, I'm not convinced he would have been as important as some make out, but he certainly seems to have been a very talented individual.
Would the homophobia still have driven him from the industry even if he wasn't castrated, beaten, and drugged by the government? Would he have wanted to help even if he could for such a society?
Could he have made powerful enough connections in politics to protect him, maybe Churchill could have visited during the war after the code was broken.
Whatever you think is most likely, but what I'm wondering is how much of an impact do you think he could have actually made? Personally I think if the majority of the people knew about the treatment of homosexuals in Britain they would be appalled, but some might think otherwise, so try to come to a consensus, it's an interesting timeline idea after all... (not that I'm claiming it or anything, but it seems to be a right of passage here if I ever have an idea).
