Esperantia / Esperançia, after the Cape of Good Hope or Bartolomia / Bartolomea, after the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias, who was the first to sail around it.
There is always Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek if either the Boers win the war or alternatively if the dutch never loose South Africa.
The official name of South Africa in Afrikaans is Republiek van Suid-Afrika. So, you don't really need that POD.
I am refering to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Republic
Briefly there was talk of Azania
Some radicals would change the name to Azania, it's still a thing.
I don't think it would be named after a political phrase. If hardcore African nationalists come to power Azania is the most likely name.
Interesting that radical black activists want to eliminate colonialist heritage from their country's name... by adopting a name coming straight out of the colonialists' classical culture!
Well, black radicals talk of decolonisation of universities such as Stellenbosch, Pretoria, and Potchefstroom, where Afrikaans was either the sole, or dual medium of instruction. Of course, Afrikaans, a language born in South Africa and the second most spoken language, will be replaced by English...
Now hang on here....
Deep in tribal history among certain central African tribes is the name of the second people to inhabit the land.....the Azu
Still, Azania is a Greek name for a region in southern Africa (not South Africa, BTW), so why would radical Blacks want to adopt it? It's not part of their culture, but of their colonizers' culture!
