What AH books are the best to read?

I’ve only read the Years of Rice and Salt so far and I really enjoyed it. Hit me with all your suggestions!
(I do prefer stories more in the immediate rather the far-out past; and I’m not really interested in WW2, but that’s about all my preferences)

The first half of Harry Turtledove’s Southern Victory (TL-191) series is pretty decent as is his Guns of the South novel for the ridiculous premise alone.
