What a relief !

My kids just finished watching The Wizard of Oz. Which made thankful that Judy Garland got the part instead of Shirley Temple. Judy Garland was a good actress and a great singer. Shirley Temple was a cute kid. Notice who continued to sing and act as an adult. If the first choice got the nod, it would not be a classic but instead another Shirley Temple movie. I don't think we would have bothered to pick up a Shirley Temple movie. My kids enjoyed a great movie, just as I did during my pre vcr childhood, when NBC showed it every April. That is enjoyed it except for the parts with a scary witch.

...and the AH content is where?

It would probably be more AH-esque is it was framed as what if Judy Garland never got the part/Shirley Temple did and what would the knock-on effects be. It could also be a bit better if it had a more descriptive thread title, kind of like the We Talked About This Before thread as well, so that you had at least some clue as to what it was about without having to click on it.

I think that this would propel Shirley Temple to further success, maybe she can get elected Governor of California after Reagan leaves, beating Jerry Brown. Her administration, lines up pretty much with her predecessor and California's economic woes are delayed a few more years. She supports Reagan in 1976 but in 1980 he's viewed as too old and Governor Temple-Black takes the nomination from him and crushes Jimmy Carter.

My Thoughts on the Presidents ITTL:

1977-1981: Jimmy Carter / Walter Mondale (Democratic)
1981-1989: Shirley Temple-Black / John B. Anderson (Republican)
1989-1997: John B. Anderson / Bob Dole (Republican) - Wins Second Term because of no Voodoo Economics
1997-2005: Bill Clinton / John Kerry (Democratic)
2005-2013: Rick Santorum / Donald Rumsfeld (Republican) - Wins because Clinton is seen as tainted because of sex scandals and 9/11
2013-2021: Barrack Obama / Kirsten Gillibrand (Democratic)

Judy Garland is best known for Meet Me in St. Louis and is slightly less of a Gay Icon.

Are there any butterflies that could remove Obama from existance? I doubt there would be a Lewinsky scandal anything like OTL.

It would be difficult for a conservative Republican to win in 1974. Shirley Temple's show biz career potential is limited by her lack of acting and singing talent.

I also think Anderson in 1992 and Santorium in 2008 would have difficulty because of the bad economy in those years. Japhy did write a very interesting scenario.

1992's bad economy was due to Reaganomics. I'd suggest without him that recession either is delayed or does not happen at all. And that in turn sets off 2008 to also either not happen, or happen at a different time.

But the Wizard of Oz is guaranteed to be a success if only because of the rest of the cast and the hype of Color. At the very least it can give her the career momentum to go on for a few more years after. And lets be honest, Reagan was a rather awful actor who's career was based on standing behind Errol Flynn and then a Chimp.

If she runs as a real outsider populist she can win, especially since Jerry Brown can be easily smeered as an insider and his father's son. The Democrats only won by three points too in 1974, its not impossible to swing with a famous candidate.
