western parts of Germany gets totally Romanized in the middle ages

western parts of Germany gets totally Romanized in the middle ages, how can it be done, is it by just encouraging the migration of latin speaking people or with annexation to france??

There was always a very vivid exchange and trade between Francophone and Germanophone regions ... so I guess you need a political domination by French nobility (not necessarily annexation to France, though).

Annexation seems tough, given that France was very weak as a political entity in the high Middle Ages, and has expanded all the time since and nevertheless not achieved what you desire ...

I think romanization in the mide ages will be difficult - even if you have French nobility. OTL Baltic states weren'T germanized even if you had German nobillity andfr a large part also German citizenship in the towns.

Why not taking an earlier POD: let Augustus conquer Germania up to the Elbe river and hold it. There'd still be Huns or the like available drving eastern Germanic tribes not under Roman control over the Elbe river.

I agree that a Classical PoD is a better bet.

We don't know exactly where the border between Celtic and Germanic peoples was in pre-Roman and Roman times (the Greeks and Romans never distinguished them properly). In all probability there was no "border", tribes of both living in both Rhine and Danube valleys.

The Roman Empire thoroughly Latinised the Gauls, the result being French. We can assume the Germanness of the left bank of the Rhine is a result of Germans who were already there being less susceptible to Latinisation (the Gaulish language was, strangely enough, quite a lot like Latin) and then later the flood of tribes crossing the frontier as foederatii.

If we plant the frontier somewhere else and have a Latinised Roman succesor inherit everything up to the Rhine, it might eventually be the TTL equivelant of "Francisised".

BlameComm, that's a nice idea. Only that you might not get a Frankish Empire as IOTL and therefore no France, no Germany, and no French language (without Frankish influence, it would be more similar to, say, Occitanian).

Best POD is classical, although the Frankish Empire also works. I'll post more when I'm not as tired.
