West Germany with the Nordic cross flag

The states appointed representatives to the Parlamentarischer Rat, which in the end voted on the flag of the new Germany. By skewing earlier elections to the conservative side, would it be possible for the new state to adopt the OTL CDU proposal, or one of the other variants, as national flag?

Looks nice, but probably would be too close to the 1933-45 flag and anyway the "Schwarz-Rot-Gold" tricolore of OTL had some nice and clear associations to freedom loving Germans in earlier times. Perhaps the Germans also wanted to send a signal about approaching France by choosing a tricolore.

Perhaps if we have more revanchist France the tricolore would not be so attractive.

Well, as West Germany decided upon its flag before East Germany, I would expect East Germany to claim the S-R-G tricolour undefaced. The issue could be more frought than OTL where in Germany as in Hungary the flag with the middle cut out was a potent symbol of resistance.

A Nordic Cross flag for West Germany is a bit ASB/offensive/prejudiced. Didn't the Nazis use a variation of the Nordic Cross on some of their flags?

I don't think it's any of those things. It was one of the two final flags in the running to become West Germany's, so hardly ASB. And it was based on a flag of anti-Nazi resistance.

Stand quite corrected. I need to stop blurting things out on AH.

But why then a Nordic cross? Germany is not a Nordic country, at least to my knowledge. What's the connection there?
