Were any Republicans willing to give CSA independence?

Were there any Republican politicians who were against war with the seceding states?

I know Seward wanted to abandon Fort Sumter so as not to provoke further secession. Would a Seward presidency avoid war with the CSA?

There was a fringe, mostly from the abolitionist 'No Union with slaveholders' school of thinking - people who might as quickly have advocated northern secession.

But this is an example of the horseshoe effect from the ultra-abolitionist extreme. The Republicans were the party of union. The union was going to stand, there would be no exceptions or compromise on that.
