Weirdest Plausible Wars?

With a POD between 1780 and 1914, create a war with the weirdest plausible participants and/or outcome. For example, I thought up of a war between Italy and Sweden in the 1880's.

Weird WWI alliances are allowed :D

I think the 101 year between Montenegro and Japan which started in 1905 should be mentioned. True it was largely a diplomatic fiction for a century (there are a surprising number of nations which "forgot" to make peace, understandable in case of small states, not so much the still missing peace treaty between Italy and Japan), but the fact alone that Montenegro declared war on Japan in 1904 is weird.

Sweden decides its time to deal with the San Marino menace and invades Italy to get to them?:D

I'm just imagining the following scenario:

This point of historical trivia is brought up between the a Montenegro and Japanese diplomat while they were out having dinner and drinks, while both are a bit sloshed they decide to make peace. Henceforth this becomes known as the "Wine-stained napkin treaty."

I think it is even weirder in reality: Japan decided to recognize the renewed independence of Montenegro and in doing so it seems noticed: Wait we can´t, we are still at war with them! With a country which hasn´t been really independent for almost 90 years!

There's the little bit about Montenegro not being an independent country for the most part of that timespan, though.
And let me reassure you that no state of war, not even theoretical, exists currently between Italy and Japan, as shown by the unimpeded activity of the respective diplomatic delegations. :D

Soviet-Paraguayan War of 1937-1992. IOTL Russian White emigres were pretty heavily involved in Paraguayan military as advisers and COs, capitalizing on their rich experience in semi-guerilla warfare across wast sparsely populated land (aka Russian Civil War). However, they didn't try to influence the country's politics. ITTL Russians, riding the wave of popularity after the war, get themselves involved in politics with Estigarribia. When Stalin's "Great Terror" starts, Estigarribia (under the influence of his White allies) declares a war on USSR to show his contempt for Soviet brutality.
Since both countries can't strike at each other (too far), the war remains a diplomatic curiosity for much of next 40 years. However, it becomes a sort of valuable asset after Somoza's ruling regime of Nicaragua loses to Sandinistas. Since Sandinistas rely on the USSR and Paraguay is, technically, still at war with Soviets, Paraguya becomes a front end for the CIA's "dirty war". Monies, equipment and "volunteers" are channeled through Paraguy to Contras.
Again, not much is different ITTL comparing with OTL for next 15 years. However, things become interesting again when Soviet Unions disintegrates and Yeltsin's Russia becomes a successor state. Yeltsin is desperate to shed his communist past, so he orders Kozyrev to sign peace agreement ASAP at ANY cost. Paraguyans couldn't quite believe their luck, but, being Latino guys full of bravado, they offer a condition that Russia should compensate all Paraguay's expenses incurred to wage this war, plus applicable interest. Kozyrev agrees. Peace is signed and rammed by Yetsin down the Duma's throats. Russia finds itself under legal obligation to pay billions of dollars (CIA expenses incurring to support Contras, plus interests). 1990s witness a wave of seizures of Russian property abroad, initiated by lawyers working for Paraguayan government.

The Barbary Wars get out of hand. The Americans look like they might try and keep some of the ports they conquered, the Ottomans take offense at a foreign power annexing what's supposedly their territory and attack the American ships. The US and Ottomans go to war and some of the Europeans see it as a chance to push some gains. The US/Britain end up fighting and extended naval war with the French/Ottomans and the Ottomans are eventually drawn into the Napoleonic wars on the side of the French.
