This popped into my head earlier today, but I had to wait to get home to do it:
The Anarchic Sea
Although anarchism, almost by definition, does not have one overriding symbol or colour, the one which has been used the most by its adherents since the mid 19th century is the symbol of dark blue waves under a light blue sky. Its origin is disputed, with some claiming it was first designed by an early anarchist group from the west coast of France, inspired by the chaos of the Bay of Biscay, whilst others claim that it originated in either Poland or Prussia, inspired by storms on the Baltic coasts. Regardless of the exact origin, it is universally acknowledged that the chaos of the sea, which cannot be tamed by any human intervention or government dictat, is a perfect analogy for anarchism. Critics who point out that putting light blue and dark blue together violates the normal rules of flag making generally receive a response similar to "dude, that's the whole point"...

Flag Challenge 274: A Color Revolution
Continuing my all-consuming obsession with ideologies and color symbolism, create a flag for a revolutionary state (an existing one or an AH creation) in a world where the dominant political color and symbol of the guiding ideology is different for some reason. Your post should use an existing historical ideology (with an existing color/symbol association) and you should explain in the lore how the symbolism turned out differently.
Entry 1:
Considering the influence Russian cosmism had on proletarian culture after the October Revolution, it is not surprising that the image of our little blue planet orbiting the Sun, which is so huge that it does not even fit in the frame, became the flag of the Soviet Union.
The white six-pointed star is a symbol of the ultimate triumph of the ideas of communism on all continents of the globe. The six ends of the star symbolize the six continents of the planet, and white is the color of a classless society, since white combines all the colors of the spectrum.
The diagonally bisected black and gold flag itself became a symbol of State Socialism.
Entry 2:
The Royal Martyrs' Banner
After the French Revolution was successfully exported to the rest of Europe, the scourge of monarchism was thought dead. The fledgling republics then found new enemies in each other. Each republic accused the others of not being republic enough, and a new cycle of wars began.
During that time whispers began, whispers that supported a more moderate system of government. One that didn't rely on the whims of the masses, monarchism. At the head of this return was France. It's monarchism movement was so bold that they would actually profess their views openly and fly monarchist banners despite the extreme danger they were in.
One of the most popular banners was the Royal Martyrs' Banner. Based of the banner for the House of Bourbon, it had three fleur-des-lys, but it was "stained" with the blood of the kings who died in the revolution. Its popularity eventually grew outside of France. So, when other monarchist movements finally designed their own flags and banners most copied this design, cementing the color red with monarchism forever.

Thank you! I've been a bit busy with work so hadn't checked the poll, so this is a pleasant surprise. Give me a day or so and I'll get a new challenge up.Winner winner! Congrats @FriendlyGhost!
With MS Paint, if you make your canvas big enough (using 'Resize') you can then just copy and paste from other images* and move those around. If you press Ctrl-E, you can expand the canvas without resizing what you have already - it will stay in the top left at its original size. When I've done things in MS Paint in the past, I've usually done the different parts as different images then put them together by pasting into bigger canvas.my graphic skills aren't that high and I use only MS Paint

Nations other than the (United) Commonwealth are the (French) Republic, the (European) Confederation (Prussian led, includes Germany, Sweden, Denmark, OTL Austria-Hungary, Italy and Spain), the (Soviet) Union, the (Latin American) League (more NATO-EU like instead of a true Mega-Nation. Includes Republics and Monarchies), the (Chinese) Federation and the (Ottoman) Empire. Planning to do a map too.
Edit: need to add this: Present is not 2020. I am not sure when it is yet but it is in the 1950s at the latest.
Since the thread this was in was locked can't quote it normally so putting it here to remember about it.
Edit:
Wanna add something else so here is the full style of John VII Braganza-Orleans after Commonwealth and Portugal unified:
His Most Faithful Majesty; By the Grace of God, Unanimous Acclamation and the Will of the People; Sovereign of the United Commonwealth; Defender of the Faith; Constitutional Emperor and Perpetual Defender of Brazil, Emperor of India; King of England, Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal and the Algarves on this side of the seas and beyond them in Africa, of Newfoundland, New Poland (OTL Nova Scotia and New Brunswick), New England, Pennslyvania-Maryland, Camelot (OTL Virginia), Arthuria (OTL Carolinas), Ontario, Manitoba, Oregon, the Cape of Good Hope, Australia, Rhodesia, Queensland, Bengal, Orissa and of United Provinces of Agra and Oudh and of the Dominions beyond the sea; Grand Prince of Ruthenia, Alberta and Hudson's Bay; Grand Duke of West Florida, Ohio, the Haudenosaunee, Natal and New Zealand; Marquess of Chicagoland; Duke of Normandy, New York, Michigan, Cape York Peninsula, Guyana, Courland, Livonia and Kanto; Prince of the Free State and Transvaal; Count of Auckland; Lord of Mann, Goa, Guinea and of Conquest, Navigation, and Commerce of Ethiopia, Arabia, Persia, and India, etc.
Edit: Because why not, the style before 1947:
His Serene Reigning Majesty; By the Grace of God and the Will of the People; Sovereign of the United Commonwealth; Defender of the Faith; Emperor of India; King of England, Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, of Newfoundland, New Poland (OTL Nova Scotia and New Brunswick), New England, Pennslyvania-Maryland, Camelot (OTL Virginia), Arthuria (OTL Carolinas), Ontario, Manitoba, Oregon, the Cape of Good Hope, Australia, Rhodesia, Queensland, Bengal, Orissa and of United Provinces of Agra and Oudh and of the Dominions beyond the sea; Grand Prince of Ruthenia, Alberta and Hudson's Bay; Grand Duke of West Florida, Ohio, the Haudenosaunee, Natal and New Zealand; Marquess of Chicagoland; Duke of Normandy, New York, Michigan, Cape York Peninsula, Guyana, Courland, Livonia and Kanto; Prince of the Free State and Transvaal; Count of Auckland; Lord of Mann, etc.
Parliament of the United Commonwealth:
A bicameral body that convenes in Westminster, London, England. Is the legislature and also de jure elects the sovereign (de facto more like confirming the fact of the succession ). All members of the cabinet are members of parliament (rarely part of the upper house, more commonly part of the lower house). The lower house is the more influential one. The two houses meet in separate chambers in the Palace of Westminster.
The Lower House is the House of Commons. The House of Commons is an elected chamber with elections to single member constituencies held at least every five years under the first-past-the-post system. The full member states of the Commonwealth are represented in the Commons. These are: Empire of Brazil, Kingdom of England, Kingdom of Ireland, Kingdom of Poland, Kingdom of Lithuania, Kingdom of Portugal (and the Algarves), Kingdom of Newfoundland, Kingdom of New Poland, Kingdom of New England, Kingdom of Pennsylvania-Maryland, Kingdom of Camelot, Kingdom of Arthuria, Kingdom of Ontario, Kingdom of Manitoba, Kingdom of Oregon, Kingdom of the Cape of Good Hope, Kingdom of Australia, Grand Principality of Ruthenia, Grand Duchy of West Florida, Grand Duchy of Ohio, March of Chicagoland, Duchy of New York, Duchy of Michigan and Principality of the Free State.
The Upper House is known by two names. the House of Lords and the Sejm. This body mostly consists of the aristocracy of the aforementioned member states. Technically all nobility of the member states at or above the rank of Baron have the right to attend the sessions of the Sejm. Monarchs and upper nobility (count rank or higher) of Commonwealth protectorates are also allowed to attend the Sejm but do not have votes. The most senior Bishops in the member states are also in the Sejm. The Sejm also functions as the supreme judiciary of the Commonwealth.
While most member states and realms (colonies and protectorates do not get to decide) simply follow male-preference cognatic primogeniture hereditary succession the territories under the Polish Crown do not. The Polish Crown is defined as the member states of Poland, Lithuania and Ruthenia; realms of Courland and Livonia; protectorates of the Hanseatic Free City of Riga and Principality of Moldavia. In these lands the succession is derived from free royal election. All members of the Sejm from this region convene the Convocation, Election and Coronation Sejms. Convocation Sejm is called upon a death or abdication of a Sovereign by the Primate of Poland. The deputies focus on establishing the dates and any special rules for the election (in particular, preparation of pacta conventa, bills of nobility privileges to be sworn by the king), and screening the candidates. This sejm is to last two weeks. During Election Sejm not only the members of the Commonwealth Sejm but also all members of the nobility form the 3 members states and 2 realms that desires to attend can attend and vote. This sejm is held in an open field near the Polish Capital of Warsaw. The entire sejm is to last six weeks. Royal candidates themselves are barred from attending the sejm but are allowed to send representatives. the voting could last days. While the elections are theoretically open to any nobleman a large majority of the electorate has always been in favor of keeping the union with the English Crown (and rest of the United Commonwealth in general). As such Sovereigns of the United Commonwealth are more often referred to as "confirmed by the Sejm" rather than "elected by the Sejm". After the end of the election the Coronation Sejm is held. This sejm is held in Krakow, where the coronation ceremony is traditionally held by the Primate of Poland. It is to last two weeks. The Sovereign undertakes various ceremonies and formalities, such as swearing an oath to uphold the pacta conventa and the Henrician Articles (different from OTL, created under Henry VIII Tudor (different from the OTL man) rather than Henry of Valois). The coronation itself takes place in the Wawel Cathedral.
This means that succession in the United Commonwealth works thusly:
*The Sovereign dies or abdicates.
*The heir immediately and automatically succeeds to the members and realms outside the Crown of Poland.
*The Primate of Poland declares an Interregnum and calls for a Convocation Sejm.
*The accession of the new Sovereign is publicly proclaimed by an Accession Council that meets at St James's Palace.
* The new Sovereign swears several oaths required by the law of the Commonwealth (mostly under the English Crown).
*Convocation Sejm ends, Election Sejm is convened.
*The Sovereign in the non-Crown of Poland wins the election. (the election is more symbolic than practical. Like how the Monarch does not use the powers they theoretically possess, the Polish nobility "elects" to remain in union)
*Coronation Sejm is convened.
*The Sovereign travels to Poland (as they are most likely in England, thought already being in Poland is a possibility).
*The Sovereign swears an oath to uphold the pacta conventa and the Henrician Articles.
*The Sovereign is crowned by the Primate of Poland in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow.
*The Sejm/House of Lords of the United Commonwealth convenes and "elects" the Sovereign. (technically before this the person is not the Sovereign but holds the many titles pertaining to the Members and Realms)
*The Sovereign travels to England.
*The Sovereign is crowned in Westminster Abbey, normally by the Archbishop of Canterbury. (This coronation is not only for England and non-Polish member states but also for the Commonwealth itself)
*Some Sovereigns have also traveled to America to be crowned there. While George II and William III also traveled to Hanover. Alice I had visited most of the Members along with some realms, colonies and protectorates after her first two coronations. It is likely that the successor to John VII will also travel to Portugal and Brazil to also be crowned there (might visit South Africa and Australia as well).

Typical - I was working on an idea with the Earth Symbol too. Time for a bit of a re-think I guess.Earth State
View attachment 780982
When the xenoi came, humanity resisted. But divided and mildly technologically outmatched humanity was eventually subdued. The xenoi set up an orbital weapons system to enforce their authority. Wile the xenoi did posses faster-than-light travel Earth was still distant and it too a long time get their. So they allowed a collaborator government to rule Earth in their name.
The delta symbols is not a xenos symbol, but they did not have any symbol that looked good to human eyes. So the Delta was used as it was a symbol that the humans already associated with outer space. The symbol on the fly represents a unified Earth.
Secretly, the reversed canton design is uncommon among human flags, it is meant to represent a upside-down flag, a sign of distress.
