Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

The Republican-Democratic Party (not to be confused with the Democratic-Republican Party dissolved in 1834) is a centrist party created by so-called Republicans In Name Only (or RINO, pronounced to sound like "rhino") and Democrats In Name Only (or DINO). This party became a traditional kingmaker and junior partner in American politics during the Eighth alignment of the American Party System.

Triceratops, a rhino-like dinosaur, was chosen as the party's symbol. The party's official color, purple, is also a mix of Republican red and Democratic blue.

God's Own Party
The GOP is a splinter from the fracturing of the Republican Party in 2040s following revelations about its leadership's involvement in the Gilead Scandal which sought to reverse all civil progress made since the 20th Century.
As the main Republican Parties reformed in order to achieve electoral success their move away from religious conservatism caused many a departure of the religious right.
These established themselves as the God's Own Party based on reinterpreting an old acronym of the Republicans.
While achieving little success nationally the GOP survived in various southern counties and states, however the recent successes in human cloning and the uterine casket has caused a surge in their numbers from those worried about "inhuman experimentation" and coupled with the rise in Revelationism as the next century approaches amidst worsening Climate Change, pundits are predicting a kingmaker scenario...

The Flag is a modified All-Seeing Eye with the US colours and a star.

Corrected the image slightly as a star went off kilter somehow.
There's also a slightly subtle play in the imagery which was initially unintended but kept in.

I like the flag but the challenge was more geared toward future history political parties, not ones growing out of past divergences 🤔 still, I suppose I didn't make that an explicit requirement so it's grandfathered in 😅 Also since it does have a past divergence you can post it in my alternate party systems thread if you like!

The Pillarist Party of America (or simply; Pillarites)

The Pillarist Party of America was founded in 2038 as a splinter of the Progress Party of America, with it's founder, controversial New Age thinker & at the time Representative Andrew Rasgey boastfully proclaiming it's founding on the House Floor. Pillarism is commonly defined as a form of Modernist Liberalism, Technocracy, and Anarchism, however Rasgey has fiercely denied such associations, proclaiming Pillarism as a Eleventh Way Political Movement.

Pillarism believes in the 'Three Pillars of Societal Progress' as defined by Rasgey in his 2039 Book 'The Way Forward: Pillarism', those being the Pillar of Faith, the Pillar of Popular Freedom, and the Pillar of Economic Freedom. Pillarism, as defined by Rasgey in other works, is a means of focusing government to 'serve society as a whole by cutting a path through the dark age of modernity forward through the doors of progress into the bright future ahead'.

FLAG CHALLENGE #257: Faster, Higher, Stronger

At the 1992 Olympics, the South African team performed under a specially designed flag; The Republic of China has been using the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag since 1981; there were Australasia and the United Team of Germany with their own flags and so on.
The challenge is to create a flag used during the Olympic Games for a team that for some reason is unable or unwilling to use its national flag.

Submissions Open: Now
Submissions Close: Monday, October 25, 15:00 GMT

Please remember to review the RULES, especially concerning flag size. For an image in a single-flag entry, the shortest side must be 600 pixels or less, and the longest side must be 1200 pixels or less.

Pan Spanish Team

all-spain.png

As relations thaw on the Spanish Peninsula a growing number of competitors from the 2 divisions of the former Empire have begun competing under a single flag rather than their own, more divisive, national flags.
The flag consists of a diagonal tricolour blue red gold each fimbriated with a white stripe. Reminiscent of the old federalist movement it is instead a mashup of the vertical blue white red flag of the Manuellian United Kingdom of Spain in the west and the horizontal red white gold of the Union of Spanish Republics. A white circle replaces where the armillary sphere would be as a symbol of peace.

Actually have time to enter one of these challenges for the first time in a while.

Slovaczech Olympic Committee flag

In early 1984, with the death of Yuri Andropov, Konstantin Chernenko came to power. Unlike in our TL, Chernenko’s health was slightly worse and after only a month as General Secretary he also died. He was still seceded by Mikhail Gorbachev, with the strong support of Andrei Gromyko. But at this time there was a bit more hesitancy and backroom infighting before he was voted in by the Politburo.

Because of the infighting in the Soviet Union, reformists in Czecholslovakia pushed for stronger changes. Gustáv Husák accepted a few of those changes.

While the Soviet Union would still not send athletes to the 84 Olympics, Husák was pushed into sending Czechoslovakian athletes to the games under a flag similar to the concept of the Taipei flag that Taiwan used. Calling newly organized group the Slovaczech Olympic Committee their athletes would attend the 84 Olympics games with their Romanian compatriots.

Flag:
The Slovaczech Olympic Committee flag is carried with a vertical hoist to help further differentiate it from the flag of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The overall design is similar to the CSR flag in elements. The five-ringed symbol of the Olympic Games in blue sits near the hoist, while the coat of arms of Slovakia sits beneath within the shield of the Czech coat of arms. Red, gradiated vertical stripes are in place to invoke the CSR flag but also represent motion of their athletes.

Pan-Cuban Sports Flag (Bandera Deportiva Pancubana)

In a scenario where Cuba is divided into two antagonizing countries, the capitalist North (Havana) and the Communist South (Oriente), both countries sent their own delegations in the every international sports competition since 1960. However, by the beginning of the 21st century, the relationship between the two Cubas warmed up a bit, one of which is cooperation in sports development. Thus, in some occasions the two Cubans compete under a single, unified team.

The flag of the pan-Cuban sports team is simple: A white field with a green map of Cuba at the center, symbolizing the hope among both North and South Cubans of reunifying peacefully in the future. The said flag is sometimes applied in pan-American, Carribean and Olympics, the most recent of which was in Rio 2016.
