Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

Main entry
Koninklijke Staat van Oceanie (Royal State of Oceania, covering most of the North-West of the Australian continent). Formally part of the Dutch East Indies, it was granted equal autonomy after the Great War (1912-1917) in 1923, becoming the 6th state in the United Kingdom of The Netherlands (the 5th being the Kingdom of Belgium)
The Flag has a tricolour base, the red and black symbolising the Kingdom of Belgium, with the blue and Royal lion of Nassau the Dutch Royal States, the two Kingdoms having formed a Personal union (followed by a political one) in 1824, joined by the golden stars representing the Southern cross, a universal symbol of the continent.:

Dominion of Australia (covering the Eastern and Southern half of the continent with the isle of Tasmania). After the Great war, nationalist sentiments rose throughout the British empire, culminating in Australia with the Sydney Riots in 1925, forcing the British goverment to grant full political autonomy to the colonies parliment (New Zealand gaining its own independence seperatly in 1927, forming the Princedom of New Zealand), with the King-Emperor George V remaining as ceremonial Head of State (although true power rested in the position of First Govenor of Australia)
The Flag shows a dual coloured, quartet system, the blue and crowned star in white circle representing the Dominion of Australia and its Governership, with the white of the English flag opposite, both overlaid by the cross of St.George bearing the Soutern cross at its center in blue. The use of a stylised English flag (in lue of the United Kingdom) is a leftover from when the colonies were directly under the crontol of the English Monarchy, prior to the Act of union (1714).:

Duché de l'Australie (Duchy of Australia, covering the South-Western end of the continent, and the gap between the Dutch and British countries (although the inner part of the Duchy mainly belongs to the Aboriginies)). Founded in 1893 by Royal decree, (the King Francis IV founding it for his great nephew, Germain Chernin) the Duchy was orignally land belonging to the Dutch East Indies until brought from the Dutch in 1875 by the French Indian Company, due to the Dutch financial crisis. Although fully French royal land, the Dukes have alowed many Aboriginal tribes to settle in the North-Eastern sector, gaining much popular support across the continent
The Flag is divied in two, with the left bearing the Royal standard of the French Monarchy (and the lands status as a Royal Domain), whilst the right bears a blue background, overlaid with the Coat of arms of the Duke of Australia, the Fleur de lis (representing close membership to the Royal family), borded by 5 equal stars.:

Translation of the Dutch/French Australian Captiols:
- Stad van Janszoom (city of janszoom), named for the original discover of Austrailia, Wilhelm Janszoom
- Agen des Lumieres (Agen of the lights), named for the city of Agen, and "the lights" being the night sky and the eventual result of the city being a large metropolis

The Republic of New South Wales, originally colonized by the British Empire, is an independent nation on the Australian continent. Generally the territory is defined between 132 degrees east and the Southern Pacific Ocean and between the 26 parallel south and the Antarctic Ocean, as well as Cooksland (OTL's New Zealand) and Van Diemen's Land.

New South Wales declared independence from the British Empire after the Great War (ITTL 1904-19011) and briefly was a British Dominion before declaring itself a completely independent entity and a republic after the Global Financial Crisis in 1921. Relationships with the Dutch-speaking Republic of Tasmanië (between the Timor Sea and the 26th parallel south) are cordial, while the relationship with the Kingdom of Antarctique (remainder of Australia, Napoleonic) are unhealthy since a maritime boundary dispute.

The flag of NSW is based on St. George's Cross, showing the British past, while adding green elements, symbolizing the natural diversity and economic wealth, as well as an eight-pointed black star, standing in for the countries eight provinces.

Really? I doubt that.

well the week 2 winner entered 5 flags for a single country, week 14 was 2 again, won by theprofessor, plus even multiple winners...guess it all depends on who votes for what..so could still lose with multiple flags lol

The result of Flag Challenge 2 highlighted a loophole since fixed.
And Flag Challenge 14 was to design 2 flags :D.

So, highlight which one is your entry before the Challenge Setter (in this case Sicarius and benkarnell) decide for you ;).

Isnt the Niew Zeeland one not allowed? Because it was supposed to be only Australia...
he could simply be calling the entire thing new zeeland..nowhere has he stated that its the islands of new zealand hes talking bout...plus he mentions aborigonies, who are australian...maori are the new zealand version
edit:
he mentions at the begining that its named by wilhelms janszooms epedition, which focused opn the northern part of the continent ( the strait where new zealand was loacted wasnt discovered for another 4 months)

We will need him to clarify it.
The adoption of "New Zeeland" for the new lands discovered by Willem Janszoon in his voyage of exploration in 1606 would profoundly effect the rest of history. The subsequent explorers would acquire copies of Janszoon's coastal drafts and begin exploring the austral continent. Many would give the land other names, but because so many of the copied maps had the name Nieu Zeland already marked....

...The dutch would initially use their holdings on the eastern section of New Zeeland as a penal colony until the discovery of gold in the Janszoon province in 1796. This started the gold rush and the concurrent missionary work of catholic and protestant churchs to the Aboriginal New Zeelanders...

janszoom originally thought hed sicovered a new coastline of new guinea, when infact he landed at the northeastern edge of queensland

wikipedia:
"In 1605, he sailed from Bantam to its south coast and continued down what he thought was a southern extension of New Guinea, but was in fact the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula of northern Queensland. "

Either you looked at the wrong thread, misinterpreted something, or saw one of the really early rounds where the rules weren't fixed.

Current rule is that you can make as many flags as you want, but only one is actually entered. If you don't say which one, this week's contest organiser will choose for you.

Just to clarify my New Zeeland is Australia. When Janszoon was exploring he called it New Zeeland, but the name didn't stick in OTL. In TTL it did get named New Zeeland.

If I win, which seems to be a fair chance, I shall ask you to design a Romance-speaking Britain's flag. You can decide how it came around.
