Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

A US tourist macroregion that proved really popular was the "Maritime Minors". As its name suggests, it consists of the five smaller states of New England to the south of Maine : Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
I rather doubt whether Massachusetts would have accepted being labelled as a "minor"... or having its emblem placed in the fourth quarter of the design rather than the first... :p

I have my entry about 75% complete but have just learned that I have to go out rather urgently. Not sure if I can complete the entry by tonight (midnight BST?), so good luck to all the entrants.

They're good sports, they can handle it ! ;) :p

Thank you, Susan. Hopefully you might still find some time to post it before the voting starts.

Congratulations, Martin. :)

I have a suggestion, guys : For the 100th round of the WFC, we should come up with a special AH flag theme, just in order to celebrate that the Contest has gotten this far and has survived for more than four years. By AH.com standards, such a long-running contest is truly remarkable.

Wow, I finally won! :D I don't know about a special challenge. I'd rather just have a regular old contest. I was thinking about a design contest for a surviving Khazar polity. It doesn't have to be a Khaganate, or of Jewish character, though of course those are possibilities.

I support this proposal.

It could be competition #100 while letting Martinus P set the challenge for #101.

I'm actually rather torn on whether to do a wholly "celebratory" round or just a plain one with some mini-celebration attached.

Sounds like a plan and gets my vote.

Hmmm, how about a special one-off Centennial Celebration Flag Challenge with winner getting some kudos and a made-up title (;)) while Martinus P decides his what his challenge will be as usual?

So, forgive me for asking what may seem like an obvious question, but what is the theme for the next challenge?

Perhaps we need a poll to decide whether challenge 100 should be "special" or just plain "standard"?

We might, depending on whether the others like the idea of a poll. In any case, Martin already has an idea for the round's theme.

One possible solution to the "special anniversary edition" idea would be making a memorial plaque for the 100 round anniversary. Then, as part of the celebration, we could count all the winners so far, and make the two or three winners with the highest number of victories enter into a special, non-numbered round, where they compete in making flags for a special anniversary challenge. The one who wins this bonus challenge will be crowned "Vexilological King/Queen of the First 100 Rounds". :) ;)

What about doing something with the 100, e.g. 100 flags (might be a bit much) or a state/group/pact/organisation that has it's centennial or so?

Or a flag for the flag contest?

I could get behind this

The poll's closed and it was close but the '100' option's won.

I'm happy to run this round if no-one's got any objections. If you do post here or PM me otherwise I'll set it up tomorrow evening.

Will do.

But don't discard your original idea for the round either. We'll reuse it for Round 101.

so what is the challenge?....please don't let it be the winners with the most votes one, cos thats gonna be limited to what...3 people...hardly seems fair (especially as some people have being doing it longer and so on)
