Releated to another thread of mine, what would have happened if the US proved weak in the fight against global communism? Say for example, they back down during the cuban missile crisis or leave Vietnam early. Is there a real chamce that a 'The heartland of capitalism doesn't even try to defend this ideology anymore. Communism is the way to go' mindset would take hold in the west?

I don’t think you can get a “weak” US. A isolationist US that gives up on Europe like it did after WW1 is far more plausible and has roughly the same consequence as far as the Eurasian countries are concerned. Even then, I’m dubious about communism’s ability to get a serious foothold into the US.
