Way Japan might have allied with the US during ww2

Like it says on top, this is conexisting with my mod and my other post, ways the ussr could have started ww2.

One possibility would be the veto of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 which closed US markets to Japanese goods. The closure of the US market to Japanese goods is one reason that drove the Japanese to acquire Manchuria as a means to have a market for their goods.

If PM Tanaka Giichi managed to slap the ultra-nationalists down in 1929 and keep the army out of Manchuria, it may have stopped or at least slowed Japan's slide into militarism. Especially if it allowed his government to hold onto power during the Depression. The protectionism and economic controls of the left leaning government that replaced him exacerbated the economic crisis. Without them, maybe Japan would have managed to retain its civil government. Especially if the US continues to trade with Japan, which would help stabilize both economies.

Charles Lindberg wins

Presidency in 1934. The New Deal has failed to bring improvement, and so he wins handily. He blames the depression on Communists and Jews, and begins building up the military. The Spanish Civil War is entered into by the United States on the Axis side. The Abraham Lincoln Brigade becomes a bunch of traitors overnight. In 1938 he is reelected, and promises to keep the United States out of the War in Europe. To do this he signs a mutual defense treaty with Poland. When Russia invades Poland in 1941 the US joins the war on the Axis side, and things go downhill for Great Britain after that.

This is Quasi-ASB, in that this is only marginally possible. For Starters, Electons are held every four years, so an election would be held in 1936, not 1934. You'd have US democracy failing outright in this scenario to force some kind of emergency election.

This idea comes from an interesting book on a hypothetical Lindbergh Presidency, but it fails to consider the strength of US ties to the UK and France and the weakness of the America First movement. Lindbergh probably wasn't this much of a wacko in the first place, even if he did somehow win the Republican nomination.

A simplier, cleaner scenario involves Nationalist China and Germany making stronger ties in the 1930s--and then Germany chooses China over Japan, making them an Axis Power. This kills most of the sympathy the Allies have for China, and if this happens by 1941, Japan is ironically a natural ally against China. Whether this means an actual alliance or just some co-operation is an open question.
