Watchmen 2010es series (no movie)

inspired of the first Watchmen thread today.

There are talks now, to produce a Minutemen series based of the "before watchmen Comic series", if im not wrong. What if the 2009 movie is never made or fails to being released because of copyright issues and no other steps are taken by other directors. Could there had been a long Watchmen TV or Netflix series, which iclude "Tales of the Black Freighter" and all the massive background stuff, including minor characters ? (a problem is, that we all now the end of the story ) A Watchmen "Games of thrones" style ? Which actors would you cast ?

i think it would probably be better-realized as a miniseries directly adapting the story perhaps with the addition of some series-only expansion on other events of the comics which are only alluded to, such as an entire hour-long episode following Hollis Mason (the first Nite Owl) and the Minutemen tracking down Moloch

I'd watch the hell out of that!

Potentially, given Netflix or HBO rely on subscriptions, and hence allow for a greater amount of freedom, we could see the squad fully realized. We could also have a closer adaptation of the work in other respects.

My opinions run hot and cold regarding the Watchmen movie. Visually impressive, spot-on with some of the casting (especially Rorschach and Comedian), but it felt too rushed, even with a 3+ hour run time. A miniseries of 6 one-hour episodes would have done it more justice.

Considering the success of The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones, I wonder if another year or two in development hell would have brought Watchmen to the small screen instead. That's what's happening with Preacher and Y: The Last Man.

I think a miniseries would've been an awesome alternative. So awesome, in fact, I've made up a small casting thing --

The Watchmen
(HBO miniseries (6 episodes), 2010)
Dir: Neil Cross, Alan Moore

(Alan Moore, sick of how Hollywood warps his work, decides to have direct involvement with the series, which makes it much, much better)

CAST:
Corey Stroll as Rorschach
Rupert Penry-Jones as Dr. Jon Osterman / Doctor Manhattan
Emily Bevan as Laurie Juspeczyk / Silk Spectre II
Martin Freeman as Daniel Dreiberg / Nite Owl II
Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias
Clive Owen as Edward Blake / The Comedian
Michael Kelly as Edgar William Jacobi / Moloch The Mystic

(would've added more, but can't really think of any)

actually, iirc the reason Alan Moore doesn't associate himself with any adaptations of his works (except for For the Man Who Has Everything ;)) isn't because of changes in the process of adaptation but because he feels comics just don't translate to other mediums and therefore doesn't acknowledge them
