Wasteland Memories: Photos from the Fallout Universe

So by 1989 the Aero-Cruise Liners were withdrawn from service?
Pretty much! That and and a crash in the stock market would logically point to the collapse of the industry. Think of how by the 1980s cruise ships were dedicated for seniors, whereas they were advertised as for young lovers in the 1950s/ 1960s....

I guess much like in our OTL, people found the airlines to be much better.

Pretty much! Consider cruise lines are also considerably slower. Consider that a cruise liner will go at top speed at 35 miles per hour. A 747, 621 miles per hour. As such, while an aercruise ship is romantic or luxurious, it is close to 20× slower. Even trains are 4× faster..

A pre war painting of an EL-2B Class Fusion Powered Locomotive hulling a coal train through the mountains of West Virginia during the fall of 2076. Before the Great War the Virginian Railroad may have been "the Richest Little Railroad in the World" but their motive power was anything but little, and some of their massive locomotives can still be found in Appalachia.

Two videos about protection in the event of a nuclear war

In the United States and Canada, the 1970s instruction film Protection in the Nuclear Age would be one of the many pieces of media to address citizens of the dangers of a potential nuclear war. The film would be shown in classrooms and on various television stations across the United States and Canada from the 1970s up until the Great War in 2077.

----------------------------------------------
Across the pond over in the United Kingdom, Protect & Survive was first created in 1974 and would be used up until the Great War. Protect & Survive was intended to inform British citizens on how to protect themselves in the event of a potential nuclear attack. The campaign comprised a pamphlet, newspaper advertisements, radio broadcasts, and public information films that aired on various British TV stations.

--------------
I know that since these two things came out in the 1970s and might be a little "too new" to fit into the Fallout Universe, they at least fit into the themes of the series about nuclear war.
Do you think you could add these to this thread for 1984's Red Dawn? https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...nd-the-aftermath.537398/page-44#post-25366302

A colored photo of an Amtrak Fusion Powered F40PH leading the Illinois Zephyr out of Chicago, passing Amtrak’s locomotive facility just south of Union Station, which in 2075 around the time the photo was taken, features a hodgepodge of motive power, including Amtrak F45s and E-units, a P30CH and some Conrail EMDs and Alcos.

Oh look, the Sears Towers was still built. That's nice!

Much as I like trains, I feel that these are much too modern and don’t mesh with the retro-futuristic themes of the Fallout world. I’d suggest using trains like the UAC Turbotrain or the General Motors Aerotrain, or the early EMC E1s.

I can see the UAC Turbotrains, General Motors Aerotrains being around before the war, but the early EMC E1s are from the 1930s and don't much up with the 50s/60s retro-futuristic theme. That's why i believe the F40PHs, GE P30CHs and F45s would be perfect pre-war locomotives, as they have a retro-futuristic look to them.

ATOMIC_TRAIN_webp_75.jpg

Promotional image for the American Atomic, a nuclear powered train operated on many passenger routes across the United States. With an immense size rivaling its less streamlined industrial cousins, the Double A would channel the output of its General Atomics reactors into specially designed engines engineered to challenge the speed and comfort of air travel

maxresdefault_jpg_75.jpg

With its domination of the american car market, the Chryslus corporation enjoyed exceptional freedom to experiment with designs and an ability to target niche markets. Billed as a long range sports car equally at home in the city as it was on the open highway, the Olympian was powered by a compact nuclear reactor whice could be easily swapped out for refueling on long trips. In addition, it also proudly boasted "advanced concepts as a travel programming computer, variable density glass, jaluosie windows, and finger tip steering" among its many selling points.

(The American Atomic is based off what I believe is a General Electrics advert I found here, while the Olympian is based off the Ford Seattle-ite XXI)
