Washington Dies: A Collaborative TL

I'd like to get a good collaborative TL going. The POD will be this:

October 4th, 1777: George Washington is hit by a stray cannonball at the Battle of Germantown. His death causes chaos within the American ranks, and the Continental Army is forced from the field in defeat.

For now, I'm restricting events to the 1777-1785 period.

November 18th, 1777: Major General Benedict Arnold, hero of the Battle of Saratoga, is appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, succeeding the late George Washington.

That could well have happened- & if it did,
things may well have turned out alright!
IOTL Arnold is remembered mostly as a
traitor, but he was also a very capable
general(it was his leadership, not Horaito
Gates', that was decisive in winning the
Battle of Saratoga)who was well-liked by
his troops(they appreciated his willingness
to expose himself to enemy fire). He went
over to the British in part out of anger over
his contributions to the rebel cause being
(he felt)ignored. Being appointed to head
the Continental Army would have ended
THAT! Add in French troops & ships to a
good, well-respected American leader and....
