Washington dies 2.0

Last week's thread rebooted. So, Washington dies in 1789, immediately before or after the election. There isn't much doubt John Adams'll become president.
- What does his presidency look like?
- And what about his cabinet?
- How many times will he run and be re-elected?
- How long before events in France begin to diverge from OTL?
- Will the US go to war with France, Britain, or neither?
- Who's the next president?

I've thought about this one - not 1789, but later in his administration, when he was deathly ill. McCullough posited in John Adams that Washington was the only thing holding the country together, between the Hamilton/Jefferson and the North/South. It's not hard to imagine a bullheaded Yankee Federalist like Adams making a volatile situation worse.
