Washington DC 2010 Mayoral Election: Fenty Wins

Wow, super local topic, I know. But I've seen a few other DC-area people around the board who might have an opinion on this issue.

I was prompted by the continued dithering on the streetcar. As a mayor known for plunging ahead without consulting the vested interests of the city, I'm thinking there's a good chance we have at least one operational line by this point, with the Anacostia Line close behind, and the north-south line under construction.

More bike lanes and bike infrastructure, obviously.

Probably a very gung-ho attitude towards the Olympic bid (though from what I can tell DC's attitude is probably the most gung-ho in the US already...but Fenty the triathlete would be out in force for this issue.)

But then the downside: more angry people who feel they weren't consulted.

And specifically, the education juggernaut that seems to decide everything in this city at the end of the day. Unfortunately also the issue I am least qualified to wrap my head around. DC K-12 education is insane.

He's also been criticized for his handling of public housing, but I think that's more a function of the economy. With development returning to at least early 2000s levels (if not the heights of 2007) he'd have a lot more leverage to force developers to include affordable housing in larger projects.

Any one have any thoughts on this?
