I've been seeing a number of the British Win the American Revolution threats where the victorious British hang Washington and many other leaders of the Revolution, but that got me thinking about the Howe brothers' offer of amnesty following the New York campaign.
How would things transpire if George Washington had accepted the Howe brothers' offer if his force had been boxed in or if some other calamity caused Washington to take them up on the offer?
It is my understanding that apart from leading the army, one of the other items that they were authorized to give amnesty to any rebels that accepted it. Any terms of surrender were out of their hands.
What are others' thoughts on this?
