The Congo Pedicle is the part of Katanga that kind of cuts into Zambian territory. The awkward little salient creates various economic difficulties for Zambia - it impacts communications and transportation heavily, as transportation across southeastern Zambia is much more difficult than through the Pedicle Road that cuts directly through Congo, but travelling via the Pedicle Road always depended on the political situation within Zaire/the DR Congo.
Yet Zambia never really sought to take this section of Katanga. Was there ever any political force in the Zambian opposition, or factions within the ruling governments, that advocated a hawkish solution (i.e. annexation of the Pedicle) to the issue? How plausible was it that such political forces would have gotten their way and ignited a war between Zambia and its geographically intrusive neighbor?
