The Red Army lost 700,544 men after the encirclment at Kiev; a disaster that saw the complete collapse of the entire Southwestern Front.

So given those facts, along with the political realities on the ground, was it possible, that a neogtiated peace could have occured after the battle ended?

If so, what could be realistically gained by the Germans?

I did a thread on this question a while back. Essentially, based on Stalin's earlier offer, Germany could have obtained the Baltic states, Belarussia, and Ukraine.

If Hitler was willing to offer terms I think Stalin would have been willing to take it. The problem is how long that peace holds before Stalin breaks it once he has mobilized his strength for revenge.

He is going to be in a much weaker position though. A lot of food and man power come from that area and his political position will be weaker.

Sure, but a USSR not suffering in war can mobilize its power more effectively in the long run. Plus the Brits are still at war with Germany, so the blockade continues and there is the chance of US entry, which would mean Stalin could sit back and let the Allies do the dirty work before getting revenge.

In my opinion, what would happen after such a negotiated peace would depend on whether Germany avoids getting into war with the US. If it does, than the fact that the overwhelming bulk of the German ground force stays in the east in relatively secure defensive positions without having suffered the losses it did during the OTL Battle of Moscow and Operation Blue/Stalingrad would probably make the cautious Soviet leadership hesitant to renew the conflict, but if the US is in the USSR would probably attack once enough German forces were moved west to counter an Anglo-American landing.

Neither Hitler nor Stalin will accept peace so long as they're winning. There's no point in 1941 where Hitler doesn't think he can't take everything from Russia that's worth taking.

Hitler could demand reparations in the form of oil shipments from the Caucasis Region.
Stalin would need a year or two to rebuild his efforts to oust Nazis from Mother Russia.

Sorry but there is a limited number of times you can broke your word and still be believed when you reach an (another) agreement

I think it would need Stalin to reject it followed up by a coup of peace minded army officers, who had been traumatically effected by the collapse of the Southern Front. Maybe if Leningrad was taken, this would be more likely.

Stalin himself was spooked as fuck, but I think he knew internal power for him would be impossible in the event of that kind of defeat.
