Was a revival of the Holy Roman Empire ever in the cards?

Fairly simple question. After its formal dissolution in 1806, was a revival of the Holy Roman Empire in some form ever a real possibility? Could the institution have been brought back after the conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars in place of the German Confederation? Could the name have been recycled as a vehicle for German nationalism decades later?

What were the biggest obstacles to such a revival, and how could they have been circumvented?

An empire so heavily based on the catholic religion and concept of one church, one empire, isn’t exactly desirable for non catholics is one of the first obstacles that springs to mind, as well as that it can’t be resurrected as it was as it’s just shown that it’s not a strong enough state structure to defend against a more centralised opponent, and a more centralised state would provoke the enmity of German kings and anti Austrian sentiment. Idk I’m just spitballing here.

The closest you could get is if grossdeutschland won out and German unification includes the Habsburg empire

Not "Holy Roman"...but Germans long held pride in the fact that their country was not a normal kingdom but a "Reich". The proclamation of the German Empire, in a way, hearkened to Germany's HRE days.

Plus, Nazi Germany was replete with references to the HRE. Provinces were given the medieval term "Gaue", military operations were commonly compared to glorious Crusades, and Hitler spoke often of the "Thousand Year Reich", referencing the HRE's longevity.

The German Confederation (whose head was the Austrian emperor) was largely the same thing, just under a different name.

That is my question. Why not reuse the name?
Personally, I would throw away the "Roman" aspect and just replace it with German, so as to emphasize and make clear the German nature of it. So, it would be Holy German Empire or German Holy Empire, with German Empire and Germany just being informal terms for it.

That is my question. Why not reuse the name?

Because the ideological concept behind the HRE was obsolete, the Germans no longer saw themselves the heirs of Rome, the German states had been far more consolidated, the princes had risen in standing and was no longer willing to treat the emperor as their overlord and the Catholic aspect of the HRE was a status quo the Protestants could live with, but wasn’t willing to readopt when they got rid of it. If the HRE should be recreated, it demand that Prussia are broken and that Austrians are seen as the ones beating the French and none of the other German state can challenge Vienna after the defeat of Napoleon even with Russian or British help.
