War of the Swedish Succession

I'm sorry to ask what must seem like a blatantly obvious question, but the Swedish throne has bypassed nearer claimants five times in its history - Erik XIV's son, Johan III's younger son, the Polish Vasas, the future Peter III of Russia and Gustaf IV's son.

I was simply wondering why there hasn't ever been a War of the Swedish Succession? And could there be one? And if so between who and when? And would the result be the OTL monarch on the throne or someone else?

Thoughts and feedback appreciated.

Planned one for the Duchess of Cumberland as TTL's Great Northern War.
In that TL Karl XI never had a son, only two daughters. The elder one is married to her first cousin Gustav of Stegeborg (third in line to the throne ATM), so that they are jointly crowned as Elisabeth I and Gustav III when Karl dies (to avoid Queen Regnant issue as memory of Christine is fresh) The younger one is married to the brother of King of Denmark.
The problems start when Elisabeth of Sweden dies in childbirth and her husband insists on reigning on as Gustav III. The Danish king starts war for the rights of his sister-in-law, which soon turns into Baltic free-for-all.

Realistically the Deluge counts as...sort of a War of Swedish succession. Though ending in curbstomp of Polish Vasas.

the future Peter the III as king of Sweden? God help us all if Sweden and Prussian go to war, unless that butterfly's his Prussian fanboyism.

IDK, Pyotr III would've maybe been more at home in Sweden than in Russia - after all, he'd for all intents and purposes been kidnapped in order to become Elizabeth Petrovna's heir, he hated the Russians so much that he packed foreigners (mostly Germans) into the various posts available, he would never have been a good emperor, but as king of Sweden he might have a chance to be better than he was. Especially since whereas in Russia he has to be the be-all and end-all of politics, with Sweden's Age of Liberty, he can just be regarded as another Frederik I:

Under the reign of King Frederick, science has developed – he never bothered to read a book. The merchant business has flourished – he has never encouraged it with a single coin. The Stockholm Palace has been built – he has never been curious enough to look at it.

IDK if he won't be a Prussophile as OTL, but he could marry Luise Ulrike or Anna Amalie of Prussia if he seeks for a better understanding between Stockholm and Berlin. Although I did see in a TL where he ended up as KoS, he married Ulrike of Hesse-Kassel (OTL duchess of Holstein) instead.

If Bernadotte had not been so clever diplomatically, had maybe clung to a pro-French view then in defeat you could have a Murat-in-Naples situation in Sweden with legitimists fighting to force him out, and others fighting to support him.

Cat!

I think another way of getting Gustaf (V) on the throne might be to simply have the Swedish Parliament accept his father's abdication in his favor instead of passing him over in favor of the elderly and childless Carl XIII. Another option, is to have Carl (as his wife wanted) name Gustaf heir when Carl Christian of Augustenborg dies.
