War of the Illegal Purchase.

The Louisana Purchase was when the USA bought Spainish territory from France while it was occupied by the French. Under what circumstances could Spain be motivated to attempt to get back the Lousiana Purchase or is my history wrong?

1) it wasn't illegal, exactly. The French had clear title, due to extorting it from Spain. Whether that extortion constitutes a valid transfer is debatable. Lots of countries sign treaties under duress that they have to live with.

Your history is wrong. Spain legally ceded their claims to Louisiana in the Third Treaty of San Ildefonso in 1800. The land was originally French, but France ceded their claims to Spain in the Treaty of Fontainebleau in 1762.

Spain really didn't enforce its claims to any of its colonies north of central Mexico. At most there were isolated missions and forts with small towns. Spain simply lacked the population, money, and interest to intensively enforce its claims there, including Louisiana.
