War of 1812 has more support in New England?

How would his effect the course of the war? Would the US attack Montreal first?

Possibly. It really depends on how the war effort elsewhere is going, though. For example, if the Brits/Canadians end up going thru Michigan, we might have to defend the Detroit area, then engage southwest Ontario first, in that scenario. Or, in another, we might end up invading the Maritimes first, most likely thru New Brunswick via Maine.

One question is WHY new england is in favour. That might have other repercussions, too.

Definitely. Considering both the attitudes of the Federalist Party in New England (which was vehemently against all Presidential administrations from Jefferson onwards, but which the hate was much deeper and reflected much of the thinking in Colonial New England) and the death blow to trade the various embargoes had on the region, you would need a very good reason for New England to support the war. Maybe if the Democratic-Republican Party early on had the same amount of support in New England that the Federalists had, and things did not go so politically hyper, and in which case a large D-R following would pressure Washington under Jefferson and onwards not to go ahead with the embargoes and the like, though even then it has to be more than that.
