I'm currently writing an RPG plot using the Dark Heresy rules. To liven up the setting notes and house rules, as well as provide some colour, I'm thinking of including some pictures. This is where AH dot com comes in.
This isn't as such alternate history. However, the world I'm using is heavily based on the Austria-Hungarian Empire, late Imperial Russia, the Balkans, and various colonial Empires. Technology is late 19th century/early 20th. Psykers and mutants do exist, and are regarded with a mixture of fear, religious awe, and a businessman's eye by the main population (they're educated in secluded convents/boarding schools, leaving them with little knowledge of how the actual world works. Easy targets for con artists, then.)
I'm therefore willing to use actual photos from the late 19th/early 20th century (as long as they aren't too well known, or easily identifiable- a black and white image of some random Gendarmes isn't going to be easily traceable, but a colour photo of Queen Victoria with a Union Jack right next to her is quite another.) I've already had a brief look round those old colour photos of the Russian Empire, but anything you can find will do fine.
Useful subjects for photos (black and white or colour), paintings, and other images, include:
-Mutants. (These will be a bit tricky; freak shows may provide a source.)
-Psykers. (Spiritualists, occultists, tribal shamans...)
-Soldiers.
-Engineers/scientists
-Huntsmen
-Scholars/archaeologists/professors
-Someone who looks like an assassin/thief
-City landscapes
-Large, onion domed buildings
-Anything else that looks cool.
That'll do for now, I think...
