Wang Jingwei doesn't turn pro-Axis?

If Wang Jingwei didn't become a defeatist during the Japanese invasion, much less become a collaborator, would that have made things better for the ROC overall?

Did his treason discredit the left-wing faction of the KMT? If he had stayed, and fought against the Japanese, maybe he could have appeared as a credible oppositional figure to Chiang Kai-Shek. And maybe he could have even had enough influence to have the KMT negotiate an agreement with the CPC.

We need some China Hands in this thread.

The Japanese just find some other puppet.

By the time he went over to the Japanese side, Wang was a has-been in Chinese politics anyway. Which of course may be a big part of the reason he did so...
