If Wang Jingwei didn't become a defeatist during the Japanese invasion, much less become a collaborator, would that have made things better for the ROC overall?
Did his treason discredit the left-wing faction of the KMT? If he had stayed, and fought against the Japanese, maybe he could have appeared as a credible oppositional figure to Chiang Kai-Shek. And maybe he could have even had enough influence to have the KMT negotiate an agreement with the CPC.
