W.I. Louis XIV dies at Siege of Maastricht 1673

How would this change the History of Europe and the World?

Louis the Grand Dauphin is King under the regency of his uncle Monsieur. The war would go on, maybe with a quicker peace and less french expansion. No Réunions or Grand Alliance War, but the Spanish Succession would be a more complicate business, as the main claimant would be the French King himself, not his son. OTL the Grand Dauphin was of the main actor behind the acceptance of Charles II's will.

the main actor behind the acceptance of Charles' will (and getting him to make the will) was Louis XIV. Grand Dauphin was an advocate of acceptance, but he also ranked pretty high on the list of people whose opinion L XIV didn't much care about. The voice XIV listened to in this matter was one of his advisers (Colbert?).

But.... there's a lot of ground to traverse between POD and WOSS.

Probably massively altered: 9 years war/war of league of Augsburg
Probably altered to some extent: WOSS
Who knows?: line of French succession/mass die off of heirs 1711-1714 and marriages and military/economic preparedness

Recent research (Lahaye 2013) has shown the Grand Dauphin had an influence on Louis XIV's decisions, especially after 1700. His public attitude of "devoted son" had fooled historians into thinking he was a nobody with no personnality, but in the Spanish succession, he was clearly the most listened of councillors.
