For a brief period of time, ISIS held the Mosul Dam, which would obliterate the entirety of Mosul if it were breached and its contents came slamming onto the city. There would be almost no time for anyone to escape. In ten minutes, ISIS would have killed more people than the entirety of the Iraqi invasion and subsequent Civil War. Some estimates say one million people would be killed (ten times the scale of Hiroshima).
What if, either for military or ritualistic purposes, ISIS decided to deliberately blow up the dam? What would the international ramifications be? What would be the immediate change on the ground in Iraq? How big would the intervention be?
